120 Acres of tropical jungle forest. Impressive family home in the heart of Costa Rican dry tropical forest. There is a 70-foot seasonal waterfall at the back of the property, miles of mostly deserted beach 12 minutes away, hundreds of acres of wilderness, and an abundance of jungle sounds. Authentic rural Costa Rican culture is just down the road. Although Javilla is about as local and rural as it gets, a few years ago someone from D.C. built a decent 12-room hotel right in the middle of the little pueblo, which would be very handy for housing production crews.
The 120-acre property is located 1.5 miles north of La Javilla, Nandayure, Guanacaste, on one of Costa Rica's last unspoiled stretches of coastline. The entire area is a pristine paradise. There are two main seasons in Guanacaste. The rainy season (May - November) is lush, green, and muddy, while the dry season (December - April) is hot, dry, and dusty. The house is open and airy, with high ceilings and many glass doors. There is a spacious 20' x 30' kitchen/living room, an office/guest room, two bathrooms, and a large wrap around porch on the first floor to protect a camera crew from intense sun or driving rain. Upstairs there is a spacious master bedroom with glass doors or windows on three sides, a guest room with a loft, and two bathrooms. There is also a small cottage with an open-air living room and two bedrooms upstairs. The houses sit on a rise in the center of a magnificent valley, where a ring of mountains tapers down to the sea. All landscaping has a random, natural feel. Aside from our property, there is only one other, all but hidden house in the whole valley.
Our property is a 3-hour drive from the international airport in Liberia and a 5-hour drive from the international airport in San Jose. There is a landing strip just up the road that could possibly be used if necessary to fly in a crew and equipment. Not incredibly convenient to get to, but once you're here, we have it all - a beautiful house, a fabulous pool, an impressive waterfall, a wild, unspoiled beach, wildlife in abundance, breathtaking scenery, local color, and good relationships with the locals (we've lived here for 11 years and our son-in-law is a local).
