If you are an owner looking to rent out your business, residential property or unique location, list it in the online location rental directory. Film Locations Wanted offers owners free one year rental listings or for a small fee, add images too. Listings offers owners the ability to add details and photos for scouts to review. Attract production to contact you for a “go see”.

Once you are contacted for rental venue, you need to determine the price. How much you can charge is based on their production budget and your rental fees. You need to consider how many days and what resources they will need for filming as a set. There is no set price for using your location rental until you discuss the details with the scouts. How many days to shoot? How many people will be on set and so forth.

Understanding the project will be a main the objective to formulate a cost to rent your location.

It is far less expensive for a filming projects to rent property from owners than to build a set. Renting owner property is preferred because it is a ready made backdrop. Generally they like to have everything in one place to shoot. Already prepared rental location is far less cost and time. Owner rentals are a popular choice.

Filming can be anywhere from a few hours to weeks. or more depending on the scenes needed to complete the segments of the project. Photography projects are generally one day shoot. Television shows and other production can be anywhere from one day to months. The cost to use your location rental will depend mostly on how many days they need the location.

Renting out property can generate additional income for any owner, and when listing a rental a key is to provide as much information and pictures in order to interest scouts in coming out to view the locale. The more details and description the better.

Scouts are under time limitations. Often times they need to find and procure a number of locations for just one film. Therefore, it is important that owners provide all details to assist the location scouts in determining for your property is right for the scene(s).

Where is production filming? Read the rag news and learn where and when filming events. We try to offer links to other industry websites. Reading will give you overview of locations are used or have been used in past productions. The rag is a overview listing of up and coming production, locations used for movies, and television to learn about filming location rentals.

Who is shooting, what and when? We add notifications weekly on production projects. All types of location rentals by owners are scouted by production personnel. Homes in any condition. Worldwide businesses, mansions, abandoned and vacant buildings, warehouses and much, much more.

TIP:
To get an idea of what types of locations are used when filming or to brush up on the industry, can be as simple as watching a movie. Take note of the varied backdrops of the scenes. There can be numerous locations used in just one film production project.

Common Injuries in the Home

The sanctuary of home is where we feel safest, but it’s not immune to unexpected physical danger. Let’s dive into some common yet often overlooked injuries that can catch us off guard, especially when little ones are involved. As parents, it’s crucial to be aware and take precautions to keep the home a haven rather than a hazard.

Stumbling into Trouble:

It might seem innocuous, but tripping and falling at home is a frequent culprit for injuries. From misplaced toys to slippery surfaces, these seemingly minor mishaps can lead to bruises, sprains, or even more severe injuries if you’re particularly unlucky.

Wall Corners:

Yes, even those unassuming wall corners can pose a threat. In the hustle of daily life, accidental collisions can result in painful bumps, bruises, and sometimes even more serious injuries. Consider corner guards to soften the blow, especially in high-traffic areas of your home.

Routine chores may seem harmless, but they come with their own set of risks. Whether it’s a slippery floor after mopping or stepping on a misplaced tool during a DIY project, these activities can lead to unintended injuries if caution isn’t exercised.

Household Chores:

Burn Hazards in the Kitchen:

The heart of the home can also be a hotspot for accidents. From scalding hot pans to boiling water, burns are common kitchen injuries. Always be mindful of hot surfaces and teach children kitchen safety early on.

The Unseen Dangers of Furniture:

Tipping furniture is a hazard often underestimated. Curious children can inadvertently pull on furniture, leading to tipping and potential injuries. Secure heavy furniture to the wall to prevent dangerous accidents.

Stairway Stumbles:

Navigating stairs poses a risk, particularly for young children or the elderly. Install safety gates and ensure proper lighting to reduce the chances of tripping and falling.

While home should be a sanctuary, it’s essential to be aware of potential hazards. By recognizing these common yet often unexpected injuries, we can take proactive steps to create a safer living environment for ourselves and our loved ones. Remember, a little caution goes a long way in turning your home sweet home into a genuinely secure haven.

New York’s Airbnb Shutdown

While Airbnb has been a popular solution for travelers around the world, New York is cracking down on the short-term rental market. Recently, new regulations went into effect, making tens of thousands of Airbnb listings illegal.

Airbnb Listing Changes

This legislation changes the way that short-term rentals operate in New York City. Instead of simply posting available rentals online through websites such as Airbnb, property owners must register the rental through the city government.

The goal is to ensure short-term rental hosts follow specific laws and maintain safe, secure accommodations. Short-term rentals are still allowed, determined by city ordinance requirements, but everything must be registered appropriately.

Going forward, New York City will work with short-term rental platforms, such as Airbnb, to verify that the listing and host are registered and following all necessary regulations.

New York City Short-Term Rental Rules

It’s important that Airbnb hosts are familiar and compliant with new regulations for short-term rentals. Some of these requirements include:

  • Properties can host no more than two people.
  • The host needs to dwell on-site in the rental unit.
  • Guests need to have access to all parts of the home.
  • The property meets all municipal safety codes.

If Airbnb hosts violate these regulations, they could face fines ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The short-term rental platform, such as Airbnb and VRBO, holds the responsibility for complying with these rules.

New York isn’t the first US city to crack down on short-term rentals. Similar restrictions have also been put in place in other locations, including Santa Monica and Philadelphia.

Fewer Short-Term Rentals in NYC

Going forward, it’s anticipated that there will be fewer short-term listings available in New York City. In the past, an estimated 40,000 short-term rental units were available. Now, the city is cracking down to ensure that residential apartments are being used for residential purposes.

It’s easy to see why these regulations are being implemented, especially because of the current housing shortage in New York. Additionally, residents living near short-term rentals will be glad to have these regulations enforced, especially because the rentals often cause disruption due to pollution and noise from the renters.

These changes are expected to reduce the number of listings, which will likely drive up the price of hotel rooms in the area.

While there are undeniable benefits of regulating short-term listings, it’s no surprise that these changes will impact the tourism economy. Local businesses and New Yorkers who rely on this rental income for their livelihood will feel the financial impact the most.

Examining TV Writer Financials

Even if you don’t keep up with the news, you may have noticed lately when you’ve turned on your TV that the variety of selections has diminished. That’s because on Tuesday, May, 2, 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike. A range of shows from Jeopardy and late night talk shows to Paramounts 1923 and HBO’s House of the Dragon have been impacted.

But when you think of television work, you probably think of limousines, of award shows, of stars and big pay days. And you’d be right . . . in some respects. Variety magazine reports that Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Reed Hastings were paid more than $50 million each in 2022. Similarly, Disney’s Bob Iger made $15 million while Discovery’s exec, David Zaslav made $39 million. TV actors show a much more modest average income of $97,000, but stars can command millions per episode. Ray Romano, for example, during the height of Everybody Loves Raymond, made $1.7 million per episode. Jenifer Aniston of Friends fame, made a $1 million per episode and later on Apple’s hit The Newsroom received $1.25 million per episode.

So with all these big numbers being tossed about, why are writers striking? Are they just whingy little prima donnas? Before you pass judgment, consider this. The average TV writer’s salary reported by Salary.com was $68,052 per year. But what if you work for one of the big production companies? Glassdoor reveals that the average writer at Netflix is making $100,195 per year. If you’re looking for the highest paid screenwriters that compare to onscreen stars, you aren’t likely to find them among TV writers. Even the great Aaron Sorkin of West Wing fame made much of his money from film rather than television.

Lately, things seem to have gotten worse for TV writers. With much of what we watch shifting from network TV to streaming, changes in the way shows are produced and paid for have left those who work for TV struggling. That’s why in 2023, when the WGA membership was asked to ratify their basic agreement, a whopping 98% of members voted for a “pattern of demands.”

One impactful change that occurred in the switch to streaming stems from production. When a TV show was a hit on broadcast TV, writers were often hired to create 22-26 episodes and were usually employed for follow-up seasons as well. Streaming series usually produce 6-10 episodes and often only hire writers for one season. To put this in perspective, the switch from broadcast to streaming has meant a shift from nearly a full year’s employment to about 3 months. Currently, writers are lucky if they pick up one series per year.

A second major change comes in the form of “residuals.” These are payments that credited writers receive each time an episode they’ve worked on airs. This form of payment usually meant a decreasing payment each time a residual check was received until payment hit a contractual minimum below which residuals could not go. In the past, broadcast residuals were much higher and acted as a steady income to supplement the lump sum payments writers were paid. With streaming, there are still residuals but they are often fixed at a much lower price. Glenn Farrington puts this change in perspective. He once co-wrote a one-hour broadcast TV episode which paid $41,000 and for which his half was $20,500. His first residual check was more than $10,000. In contrast, the highest residual check he has ever received from streaming was $1,700, and he says that the average residual check is $400-$600.

Such changes have had a huge impact on what it means to write for television. Roughly a decade ago, somewhere around 20% of TV writers made the minimum wage set by the WGA. In 2023, nearly half of television writers receive minimum pay. It has become clear that while the corporations who produce our TV entertainment continue to grow profits, the brain thrusts who come up with ideas and build the visions we see on screen are being left behind.

Kentucky Cave Networks

If you live in Kentucky and are planning a day activity, preparing for a vacation, or scouting for a film location in the area, the Kentucky Cave Networks can be an exciting and enjoyable destination to explore. The Bluegrass state offers unique natural features and stunning landscapes and is home to a unique collection of caves and caverns – some of which are 10 million years in the making.

Consider adding these unique and beautiful caves to your bucket list:

Mammoth Cave National Park

One of the biggest caves in the region is known as Mammoth Cave National Park. At the moment, it has more than 412 miles of mapped caverns… and they estimated that as much as 600+ miles are still yet to be explored! Mammoth Caves is well known because it is famous as the longest-known cave system in the world. Also, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.

Diamond Caverns

This cave was discovered in 1859, and the exploration group was stunned by the glittering formations throughout the cave. The name is fitting because these calcite formations look like a collection of diamonds that sparkle in the light. The chambers look like big cathedrals, and you can enjoy rainbow colors on the illuminated pathway that uses a state-of-the-art lighting system.

Lost River Cave

The Lost River Cave is a must-see if you love the water. You can plan a cave boat tour to move through the stunning 7-mile cave system by water. Or there are options for guided tours on the walking paths in the cave if you prefer. Learn about the range of historical things that happened in this cave, such as Jesse James, Civil War troops, early European settlers, and local Native American communities using it.

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park

Not only can you explore the Gap Cave and the natural features between 3 – 5 million years old, but this site is popular because the Cumberland Mountain Pass was an integral landmark during the Civil War. The site was occupied by both the South and North at different points during the Civil War. If you like history and natural features, then make sure to add this destination to your to-do list.

Can I Repair My Own Roof?

When something goes wrong with the roof, it’s essential to repair these issues as quickly as possible in order to avoid more damage to your home. Even a small leak can result in major issues due to water damage and more. Having a high-quality roof in place is one of the most important things you can do to protect your property and family.

Online Roofing Repair Tutorials

One common concern that homeowners have about roofing repair is the cost of these services. So, they search online for roofing repair tutorials. After watching these tutorials, it might seem like a relatively simple project. But the truth is that there are a lot of things that can go wrong with a DIY roofing repair.

If you don’t have experience with roofing repair or installation, then it probably makes sense to hire an expert for assistance. The cost of professional services is an excellent investment to protect your home.

Safe and Reasonable DIY Repairs

But there are a few small things that you might choose to complete on your own. If you have a simple roof design and a small area that needs to be repaired, then a DIY roofing repair might be a successful project.

For example, replacing a few shingles can be a simple task, especially when you are following an online tutorial for the specific type of roof in your home. Some homeowners who are comfortable using power tools also have success with other DIY projects, such as replacing the roof’s flashing or fixing a leak.

If you choose to take a DIY approach to your roofing repair, then make sure you use the right safety equipment and tools to minimize your risks of injury.

When to Hire a Professional Roofer?

There are many times when it makes sense to hire a professional roofer instead of attempting a DIY project. Consider the fact that a DIY approach might actually cost more money in the long run if you make a mistake and cause additional damage to the roof. In a worst-case scenario, the additional damage might require a full roof replacement, which is quite expensive!

On the other hand, a professional team understands the best practices for repairing roofing materials and minimizing issues in the future. You want to avoid mishaps, which is why it makes sense to hire a team with many years of experience in the industry.

Are Iron Doors Secure?

Several factors need to be considered when choosing exterior doors for your home. Not only does the aesthetic appeal matter but the strength and quality of the door also play a role in home security. If you want to protect your family from burglary, an iron entry door is a great option.

Here are some of the security benefits you can expect when you choose an iron door for your home:

Durable Materials

No matter the force applied to iron, breaking or bending the material is difficult. Many wood doors have hollow cores, making them vulnerable if someone tried to use force to break down the door. On the other hand, an iron door with a strong deadbolt offers excellent protection to keep unwanted visitors out.

Burglary Deterrence

If someone is looking for a home to target for burglary, they are scouting for easy entry. The goal is to get inside without making much noise. Installing an iron door might decrease the likelihood of your home being targeted because the burglars will look for other targets that will be easier to access.

Weather Resistance

One notable benefit of wrought iron is that this material holds up against all the changing weather conditions outside. Rest assured, knowing that your door will stand strong for decades without deterioration or issues with quality.

Property Value

Protect your real estate investment with quality materials that are built to last. When you choose an iron door, you can have confidence knowing that this detail positively impacts your home’s value. In addition to enjoying improved security while you are living in the home, you can also expect more equity when it’s time to sell the property.

Choosing the Right Door for Your Home

Are wrought iron doors the right solution for your door installation? If security is your highest priority, iron is a great option to protect your home. The good news is that you can find many different designs and styles to match the other décor elements on the property. The best way to choose a quality door is by scheduling a consultation with an experienced door installation team.

Production personnel fly all over the globe to shoot commercials and films. Many have to deal with Jet Lag and be fresh on the set or to begin looking for the perfect location for the project. Below are a few tips to help deal with traveling far and wide.

Dealing with Time Zone Fatigue (Jet Lag)

Jet lag is one of those things that’s hard to describe to those who haven’t traveled. You can describe symptoms, you can talk about crossing time zones, but it’s hard to capture the bone-weary tiredness, the mental fatigue, that sense of lightheadedness until you’ve experienced it. And many people do. While information on the prevalence of jet lag is hard to come by, roughly 60%-70% of people who travel across more than two time zones in one trip experience jet lag in some form.

Jet lag is a disorder caused by the disruption of your circadian rhythms, which regulate our sleep cycles and other bodily functions. When we cross time zones our exposure to light is disrupted and light has a major impact on our circadian rhythms. The more time zones we cross in a given trip, the more likely we are to feel the effects of that disruption. Symptoms include fatigue, headache, irritability, soreness, digestive issues, mental confusion, and insomnia. Symptoms are also more likely to be pronounced when you travel east rather than west and also if you are older.

While there is no set way to cope with or prevent jet lag, there are ways to lessen its potential effects and to deal with symptoms when you feel them.

Shifting sleep cycles: If you have a schedule that will allow you to do so, one preventative method of staving off jet lag is to gradually shift your sleep schedule from the current schedule to one that matches the destination to which you will travel. This method essentially requires moving your sleep and wake times gradually toward the destination clock times.
Light exposure: There are apps available that will calculate the ideal times for you to be exposed to light to help set your internal clock to the new schedule at your arrival destination. By spending a few days pre-flight, exposing yourself to light at the times recommended by the app, you can adjust your circadian rhythms to lessen jet lag’s effects.
Sleep: Because the worst of jet lag’s effects often connect to disrupted sleep, making decisions about how to approach fatigue is important to coping with symptoms. Unfortunately, not everyone finds relief in the same method. You have to find what works best for you. Some people work best not sleeping on their flight and by staying up through the day of their arrival. Others swear by sleeping on the plane, While still others recommend short naps on the day of arrival. What is clearly important is to start training your body to the new schedule. Therefore, extended naps that keep you from sleeping at the proper bedtime in the new location are usually counterproductive.
Coffee and alcohol: Because jet lag is made worse by dehydration you are better off avoiding caffeine and alcoholic beverages that worsen dehydration. Furthermore, alcohol is actually counterproductive for deep sleep.
Eating: Indigestion and nausea can be symptoms of jet lag and you may feel like skipping meals, but eating some small amount at appropriate meal times will help your body adjust to the new cycle.
Activity: Make sure to get out and be active during morning and afternoon at your new location. This will encourage your bodily rhythms to adjust.
Medications: You are best off consulting a physician before using sleep medications to cope with jet lag. Melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep, can be useful to some in adjusting circadian rhythms.

Most Memorable Boats in Cinema History

Whether gliding across calm seas or yawing in the troughs of huge waves, there’s just something majestic about a boat’s movement on the water. I mean, those hulks of metal and wood floating? That’s some magic (and Boyle’s law be damned)! Perhaps that’s why boats hold a special place in our collective consciousness, a place marked by the role they’ve played in the history of cinema.

There are so many vessels that could make the list of great cinematic boats: Pi’s small life raft, replete with fearsome Bengal tiger, in Life of Pi; any of the U-boats in the Sean Connery classic Hunt for Red October; the warring HMS Surprise and French Archeron of Master and Commander; the hijacked MV Maersk Alabama of Captain Phillips. But some of the most memorable boat moments of cinematic history have occurred in films where the boat seems to take on a life of its own, to almost become a character in the film. Here then are five of the most interesting and impactful nautical films and the boats that made them famous.

  1. Titanic: While this may seem too easy, no ship has tickled our fascination for as long as the ill-fated Titanic. It was no surprise then when James Cameron’s 1997 film, starring Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett, became an instant hit. While the love story drives the film forward, it is our dread fascination with the ship itself that keeps us fixated. The majesty of the rolling staircases that descend into the salon contrast starkly with the fiery scenes from the engine rooms below. It’s as if we have a microcosm of heaven and hell contained in the nearly 900 foot, 46,000 ton vessel. And all hell breaks loose when a crewman calls from the crows nest, “Iceberg, right ahead!” In the end, is it really Kate and Leo that hold our attention or the sight of that huge ship upending, snapping in half, and sinking to the bottom of the sea where it lay in our imaginations for nearly a century before being discovered?
  1. The African Queen: No discussion of iconic boats in films would be complete without mention of the 1951 Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn masterpiece The African Queen. The eponymous river steamboat was built in England in 1912 to be used by the East Africa British Railways company for ferrying hunters, missionaries, and cargo into the heart of the continent and was actually used in the film. The boat continued to do service in Africa until 1968, well after the film, when it was decommissioned. In 2012, the African Queen was brought to Key Largo, Florida, where it was named an historic site and refurbished to be put to new use as a tourist boat.
  1. Jaws: Oh, you know the Orca. How could you not? When Sheriff Brody steps from the stern into the wheelhouse and announces, “We’re gonna need a bigger boat,” the Orca sailed into our nightmares. But did you know that the Orca was actually two vessels? Orca 1 was actually a lobster boat called the Warlock that was used for most of the fishing scenes The Orca 2 was a fiberglass mold of the original Warlock and was used in scenes where the boat was sinking or destroyed. After the gnashing was over, after Captain Quint went screaming into the jaws of the shark, after the vessel was ripped to shreds and the great white took a scuba tank to the jaw, the Orca 1 spent time on the Universal lot before mysteriously disappearing. The Orca 2 did a stint on a stretch of privately-owned beach in Menemsha, Massachusetts, where eager fans in search of souvenirs slowly dismantled the vessel. It was eventually broken down into parts and sold.

  1. Forrest Gump: The Jenny was introduced to us and to Lieutenant Dan when it rammed unmanned into a dock and Forrest announced, “that’s my boat.” But from then on, the Jenny, just like its namesake, had a huge impact on Forrest and the life of the movie. Captain Dan comes to terms with the loss of his legs as he rages at the huge storm that destroys almost every other fishing vessel in the area, and post-storm, it’s the Jenny that makes Forrest wealthy. But the Jenny is emblem of the woman who enriches Forrest’s life and, like her, it goes through hell to come out the other side, although sadly only for a short while.

  1. Perfect Storm: The 2000 film that told the true story of the Andrea Gail and it’s crew is harrowing to say the least. When Linda Greenlaw, played by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, radios George Clooney’s Billy Tyne and says, “you’re headed right for the middle of the monster,” she’s not exaggerating. The Nor’easter that absorbed Hurricane Grace and later became a hurricane itself, produced sustained seas of over 30 feet with some buoys recording even larger swells. Much of the film’s experience of the storm was fictionalized, but like the real life vessel, the Andrea Gail of the film disappears along with its crew and was never seen again. But the actual film boat is a swordfish vessel called the Lady Grace that was auctioned off after filming and donated to Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center in 2002. Ironically, in 2004, it wasn’t stormy seas but rather a fire that nearly destroyed the boat.

8 Aspects of Your Home You Can Make Happier

When you’re in your home, you should feel comfortable and cozy. It’s a place where you can relax after a long day at work or enjoy family time with your loved ones. You can do many simple things to make your home more welcoming and enjoyable. Let’s explore some of them.

1. Get Rid of Clutter

Clutter can also cause anxiety because it makes us feel overwhelmed and disorganized, which isn’t good for our mental health. When you’re trying to get work done, clutter can become a distraction. It’s hard to focus on the task when papers are everywhere, and your desk is covered in stuff that can be there.

Clutter can also signify depression or other mental illness when it starts to take over your life and home – it probably means you haven’t been taking care of things well enough! If this happens, talk with someone about how you feel so they can help keep things under control until they improve.

2. Add More Plants to Your Living Space

Plants can help purify the air and reduce stress, which means that they’ll make you happier and healthier. They also bring nature into our homes: their colors, textures, smells, and sounds are all reminders of our connection to the natural world.

And studies have shown that people who view plants in their workplace report feeling less stressed after breaks on days when plants are present than when no plants are around. This is great if you’re currently working from home.

3. Add Comfortable Spaces to Sit and Read

Reading in comfort is a crucial factor in feeling happy and relaxed. Make sure you have a comfortable chair, or even better, get yourself a rocking chair to relax as you read. Also, ensure a good reading light nearby, so your eyes don’t get tired by reading in a dark or dimly lit room.

4. Decorate With Cheerful Photos or Artwork

Framed photos of your family and friends are a great way to decorate your home. For example, you can hang up a picture of yourself and your spouse when you were younger or even one of you with a child in infancy. If you don’t have such photos, consider going through old albums or ordering professional portraits that capture happy memories.

Another way to add more color to your home is by using artwork or posters depicting nature scenes or inspirational quotes. You could also create a collage from photographs: take pictures on vacation or gather images from magazines that reflect what makes each person unique.

5. Keep a Comfortable Bed

The right mattress will help you sleep better and feel more rested when you wake up. To choose the right mattress, here are some things to consider:

  • Comfort level – the most critical factor in choosing a mattress is comfort level, as every person has different preferences regarding the firmness and softness of their bed. An excellent way to test this is by lying on other mattresses at the store or even at home if available there! If you have a partner or spouse who sleeps with you, make sure that both of you enjoy the same firmness before purchasing anything together.
  • Your body type – if one part of your body hurts while sleeping, such as back pain from the wrong posture during sitting throughout workdays, then consider getting extra support under that area only instead of having an expensive thick pillow underneath every night (which may also lead to neck pain).

6. Light a Candle

Exploring Shreveport Architecture

Northwest Louisiana is a stunning corner of the country, known for its Southern charm and infusion of Creole and Cajun cultures. Nestled in this area is the thriving city of Shreveport, which has architectural landmarks that continue to wow visitors. Next time you’re in the area, you need to check out some of the following architectural highlights that the city showcases.

Strand Theatre

Shreveport is the birthplace of pharmacists Abe and Julain Saenger, though the pair also showed a large interest in cinema. They constructed many buildings on Milam Street, including the Strand Theatre, with the help of architect Emile Weil.

The theatre is one of the many highlights of older architecture in the city, which will turn 100 years old next year!

Known for its corner entrance and openwork cast concrete dome, the Strand Theatre showcases other baroque-style architectural elements like massive arches, twisted columns, cartouches, scrolled ornament, and more. The theatre is just as impressive inside, with its oval marble lobby, grand staircase, gilded ceiling, and deep balconies–you’ll just have to see it for yourself!

Slattery Building

Another great example of the wide range of architectural styles that grace downtown Shreveport is the Slattery Building. At the time it was built, it was the tallest private commercial structure in Louisiana.

Its neo-gothic style is remnant of the characteristics of early medieval structures, with a twentieth-century influence. As you can see in the exterior of the Slattery Building, this architectural style is evident through its strong vertical lines, pointed arches above windows and entryways, steep gables, ribbed vaulting, and tall towers.

All of these elements combined give the building a dramatic appearance that is just as riveting to visitors to this day as it was when it was constructed nearly 100 years ago.

Shreve Memorial Library

Constructed around the same time as the above two buildings, the Shreve Memorial Library showcases its own unique architectural style of Italian Renaissance Revival. This was a very common style across the country at the time, inspired by early 16th-century Italian Renaissance architecture found in palazzos in Rome, Venice, and Florence.

As you can see at the Shreve Memorial Library, this style is denoted by the formal design features like columns, round arches, and balustrades, and is typically made out of masonry or stone construction. Additionally, the exterior details were made by Paul Heerwagen, who also designed the interior of the Strand Theatre.

Municipal Auditorium

The last must-see architectural highlight of Shreveport that we’ll discuss here is the Municipal Auditorium. Made in Art Deco style, this building showcases intricate brickwork and a lavish interior that is slated by many as the finest example of Art Deco in the state.

It was designed by architect Samuel Weiner and was dedicated in November of 1929. In its earlier days, the auditorium would host the military and serve as a barracks for troops, though it quickly came to house one of the most influential programs for rising stars in the country, including Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Elvis Presley.

The perfect crossroads of both history and architecture, anyone visiting Shreveport cannot pass up the opportunity to check out the Municipal Auditorium.

There are countless other architectural highlights across Shreveport like The Standard, the Caddo Parish Courthouse, the Spring Street Historical Museum, and many more. So next time you’re in the area, go on your own self-guided architectural tour and check out some of these fascinating buildings across the city.
